WEDGE CHARM

The wedge charm is another special one. I found this object when I was in Bristol Design, plucking up the courage to ask the shop owner if I could use the shop as a shoot location for my upcoming collection. I saw this tiny textured object and thought it would make a lovely charm, as well as having an interesting silhouette. Charles explained to me that it was a hammer wedge; the part that secures the hammer head to the handle.

Going back to the studio to create a silver copy, it struck me that this was the perfect representation of my grandad. When I was little, he used to call me before the summer holidays and tell me to draw something and we would make it together when I went to visit. My grandad made me feel like any design I dreamt up was possible, we'd make mostly replicas of cars, he'd go the extra mile and wire the lights, leather the seats and make the steering wheel move. This charm is for the makers, and for the ones who pass on their skills to others; your encouragement & guidance means more than you know.
