The Altar Necklace is a special one. With a quiet, yet strong presence it's embedded with history, meaning and making. Combining all my techniques in one piece.
Hanging on a 16" chain, sits a 'horse mount', which is a replica of a original historical object that would have been part of a horses harness when we used to get around by horse and cart. I sandcast the original made in bronze, then made a mould so it can be replicated for you to wear in this piece. The Roman Cross charm is also featured in this piece and is another historical replica. Hanging from the mount are two short lengths of chain filled with three beads made in metal clay, leading to two single handmade bells for a light jingle.
There's something in this arrangement that reminded me of an altar, and I liked the idea of it being an altar to self, or if given as a gift it translates as a sort of offering to a person worthy of worship. It feels quiet, doting and powerful.
